The French Revolution was pretty brutal. There is a square called "harmony square" where the guillotine was invented and thousands of people lost their heads. Our tour guide said that the Parisians moved the guillotine to a different corner of the square every couple weeks because there was so much blood that it would begin to sink into the ground. Pretty nasty. Paris has tons of history about murder and violence.
We also saw the building where Marie Antoinette went to "rest" before her head was chopped off.
Here's a funny story about Napoleon: He had over 100 mistresses, contracted syphilis, prayed to a saint, and when he got better built a huge church and named it after the saint. Whatta guy.
Nice little history lesson, right? I love learning about the stories they don't teach you in books!
